Agro-environmental Sciences

The master degree programme in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences is designed to provide graduates with advanced training in biology, chemistry, engineering and economics.
The degree programme aims to train professional figures equipped with the scientific and technical tools required to operate in the field of environmental, rural and forest land planning and management, combining economic efficiency with the protection and development of natural resources.
Graduates from the master’s degree in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences can pursue careers in:
- national and regional authorities and services engaged in the protection and development of the environment and land (Technical State Services, national and regional environmental agencies, Basin Authorities, Regional, Provincial and Municipal Inspectorates and Technical Services, Land Reclamation and Irrigation Consortia, Upland Authorities and Mountain Catchment Basin Consortia);
- laboratories, professional firms and service companies operating either in the field of environmental and land planning and management, or that of environmental monitoring and reclamation;
- firms engaged in the management and disposal of wastes and environmental redevelopment;
- firms engaged in the creation and maintenance of green areas and soil and water resource conservation procedures and works;
- the environmental and land divisions of large companies;
- freelance work in the agricultural, agroforestry and environmental sectors.
Graduates of class L-25 (Agricultural Sciences and Technologies) or of the pre-existing class 20 (Agricultural, Agri-Food and Forestry Sciences and Technologies) will have access to the Master's degree programme in Agri-environmental Sciences, as they meet curricular requirements.
Those who have a degree from a national university, as well as those who have another qualification obtained abroad and recognized as suitable, may also access the programme.
Curricular requirements include solid foundations in mathematics, physics, botany, organic and inorganic chemistry, biochemistry and ecology, and at least 60 CFU in the agricultural, biological, chemical, geological subject areas.
Assessment procedures will be published on the website of the degree programme and the Faculty.
Candidates should have a knowledge of English at or above B1 level, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
English language proficiency is assessed by the SLAM - University Language Centre during the admission procedure based on:
- a language certificate obtained no more than 3 years earlier, at B1 or higher level (for the list of language certifications recognized by the University, see the website: https://www.unimi.it/en/study/language-proficiency/placement-tests-entry-tests-and-english-courses). The certification must be uploaded when submitting the online application;
- the English level achieved during a Bachelor's degree programme of the University of Milan through the SLAM (and/or a computer-based test). Certificates must be less than four years old, and will be checked by our offices without the candidate having to submit any attachments;
- the admission test delivered by the SLAM, which will take place on 8 September 2020 at 9 am. All those who do not submit a valid certificate or do not prove to meet the required proficiency will be invited to take the test through the admission procedure.
In case of failure to pass the test, the candidate is not admitted to the Master's degree programme and cannot access further tests.
Skills assessment
An examining commission will evaluate the curricular requirements and initial knowledge of candidates through specific interviews, which will be held on the following dates:
- graduates : 18 September 2020 at 2.30 pm, Aula Maggiore, Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, Via Celoria 2;
- students graduating by 31 December 2020: 11 January 2021 at 2.30 pm, Aula Maggiore, Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, Via Celoria 2.
Graduates from the University of Milan in Agricultural Sciences and Technologies, Improvement and protection of mountain environments, Agricultural technology for the environment, Management of Cultivated Plants and Landscaping are exempted from the admission interview.
The examination scores and the related UFC obtained in the partner universities are almost entirely acknowledged by our university for the curriculum studies.
Other possibilities exist in terms of cultural exchange with non EU universities (in China, Japan, Latin America) not involved in the Erasmus programme.

The tuition fees for students enrolled in Bachelor's, Master's and single-cycle degree programmes are divided into two instalments with different calculation methods and payment schedules:
- The amount of the first instalment is the same for all students
- The amount of the second instalment varies according to the ISEE University value, the degree programme and the student status (on track / off track for one year or off track for more than a year)
- An additional fee is due for online programmes
The University also offers:
- Concessions for students meeting high merit requirements
- Diversified tuition fees according to the student's home country for international students with assets/income abroad
- Concessions for international students with refugee status
