Archaeology

At the end of their studies, graduates must have the ability to work on a dig, performing excavation, process data, preparing and analysing any uncovered structures, reconstructing the history of the area subject to investigation. They will also be ready to join a research institution, where they will work (generally in an operational capacity) on protecting and promoting archaeological assets.

In order to take the interview, candidates shall apply for admission according to the terms and procedures specified on the University website.
English language
To enrol on the Master's Degree Programme in Archaeology, you must have at least a B1 level knowledge of English as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
In order to be admitted, you shall take the English language placement test on the date that will be indicated during admission procedures.
3) Graduates who obtained their degree abroad, provided that they have sufficient basic knowledge of archaeological subjects, based on their previous university curriculum, at least a B1 level in English as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), and an adequate command of the Italian language.
Italian language test
All students who have obtained their degree abroad shall take an Italian language test administered by the University Language Service (Slam) immediately after enrolment, to formally prove that they can master the specialist vocabulary required by the Degree Programme (test dates and procedures to be published on the Italian language tests and courses page of the University website).
Anyone with a knowledge of Italian lower than B2 as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) shall attend a workshop of Italian as a foreign language (B2) and pass the relevant final exam before applying for the degree thesis and completing the programme.
Candidates holding a foreign degree shall apply for admission to the Master's Degree Programme in Archaeology according to the terms and procedures published on the University web portal (www.unimi.it) every year upon the opening of admission procedures for international students.
Admission requirements will be checked by a special commission and candidates will be notified of the outcome of the assessment through the online procedure. Therefore, students with a foreign degree are normally not required to take an admission interview, unless the commission deems it appropriate. In this case, you could also take an online interview.
For each discipline, and for each campus, outgoing Erasmus students are offered three- to ten-month programme options, during which the student may sit for for-credit exams, which will then fully transfer into their own study plan. Students in a Bachelor's or Master's degree programme may also use their time abroad to prepare their thesis, with academic credit covered by their Erasmus scholarship.
Each year, all educational activities contemplated in the programme will be presented to interested students by the Erasmus contact person at an informational session; the data and educational information needed to submit the Learning Agreement are collected using designated forms posted each year to the Erasmus pages on the Faculty of Humanities' site (https://www.unimi.it/it/internazionale/studiare-allestero/partire-con-e…).
For incoming Erasmus students, the degree programme ensures the possibility of attending all lectures in Italian: students may arrange to have their programme be partially or entirely in English by contacting the individual instructor.
We have also launched a number of instructor exchanges, where our professors travel abroad to campuses as visiting professors, and their international counterparts come to teach in the Department of Cultural Heritage and Environment.
