In order to be admitted to the degree course in Biotechnology, an upper secondary school degree, or equivalent qualification obtained abroad, and an adequate basic preparation are required. Access is conditional on passing an online test (TOLC-S, CISIA) which will result to a merit ranking. Only students placed in the merit ranking list can enrol on the Degree Course in Biotechnology.
Requirements and Skills Assessment
Access is conditional on passing a test (TOLC-S, CISIA OnLine Test) which will result to a merit ranking. The TOLC-S is an online test provided by CISIA (https://www.cisiaonline.it/), Interuniversity Integrated Systems for Access Consortium.
Test format, topics and other useful information are available at the following link https://www.cisiaonline.it/area-tematica-tolc-scienze/struttura-della-p….
The TOLC-S test includes an additional section for testing the English level, whose outcome does not affect the merit ranking, and does not replace the knowledge assessment for English language required by the degree course in order to obtain the credits foreseen (see paragraph "Language test"). The English module included in TOLC-S test is to be considered as a student self-assessment..
The TOLC-S can be held at the University of Milan or at any other available location, as indicated in the calendar https://tolc.cisiaonline.it/calendario.php
Enrolment procedures and deadlines will be specified in the call for applications published on the University website at https://www.unimi.it/it/studiare/immatricolarsi-e-iscriversi.
Only students placed in the merit ranking list can enrol on the Degree Course in Biotechnology.
Additional Learning Obligations (OFA)
Students who will obtain a score lower than 11 in the basic Mathematics module of the TOLC-S test will be assigned Additional Learning Obligations (OFA).
These obligations must be met by attending support activities organized by the University in the period October-December, followed by a recovery test. If obligations are not fulfilled, students will not be able to take exams of the second year before passing the Mathematics exam.
Students must have level B1 proficiency in English. Proficiency may be certified at the time of enrolment by submitting a certificate of level B1 language proficiency or better, or by sitting the SLAM (University Language Centre) Placement test during the first year of studies only, between September and December.
Students who fail the exam must follow the SLAM language courses and obtain appropriate certification by the year in which the study plan includes a language exam.
In the event of transfer from another degree course or from another University, admission to an academic year different from the first one is subject to passing selective entrance test and to the evaluation of the previous career by the Teaching Board. Moreover, admission is reserved to a limited number of students per year, according with the Study program regulation.
The aim of mobility is to carry out training activities abroad to replace a part of your study plan, including the internship. Thus, all the activities that can be carried out abroad should be related to the topics and areas of study covered by the curricula on which the Degree Course is structured.
The planning of the study program (Learning Agreement, LA) must be prepared in collaboration with the Erasmus Coordinator, both for the choice of exams and the organization of traineeships. The program must include activities for a number of ECTS proportional to the length of the stay, in accordance with the general rules of the University of Milan.
To carry out any experimental activity that will be the whole internship, or part of it, both an acceptance letter from the hosting lab and from an internal teacher who will act as tutor and / or supervisor (Relatore) are required. These letters must be sent to the ERASMUS Manager at the time of writing the LA.
All activities will be validated in the student's career, as long as they are completed with positive results (achievement of at least 70% of the credits planned by the LA) and certified by the host university at the end of the student's stay. The Interdepartmental Teaching Board will decide on the recognition of the credits and marks of the exams taken on the basis of a predefined conversion scale.
In addition, the participation to the Erasmus + programs will be taken into account in the final definition of the graduation mark, in accordance to the extension and quality of the period spent abroad.
Mandatory for laboratory courses; highly recommended for other teaching courses.
