Learning objectives
The course introduce the student to tools and strategies necessary for a translation practice based on the analysis of the linguistic, stylistic and socio-cultural aspects of the translated text.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student will have acquired skills and competences of translating practice adapted to the different textual typologies, so as to be able to face any professional paths in the translation field with critical awareness and methodological skills.
Course syllabus and organization

Lesson period
First semester
The French Language Specialist Translation course a.y. 2020-21 will be held online on the Teams platform.
All practical information will be made available on the course website on the ARIEL platform.
The arrangements for the examinations in January and February 2021 calls will be announced on the ARIEL platform at the end of the course, depending on the evolution of the pandemic.
In the first term of the academic year 2020-21, the reception will be held remotely: to make an appointment, please send an email to the lecturer.
Course syllabus
Texts to be translated during course will be extracted from:
- tourist guides
- biographies
- self-help literature
- popular economics texts
- travel literature
Prerequisites for admission
A good knowledge of the two languages covered by the course (French and Italian) is required.
Teaching methods
The specialist translation course is based on laboratory teaching. Before the lesson, students will receive short texts to translate. During the online lesson, the translations will be read, commented on and corrected by critical comparison with the translations of the other participants, so as to acquire an awareness of the translating act as a process of revision and critical reworking.
Reflections on theoretical principles of translation will be based on the translated texts.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The examination consists of a written test of translation from French into Italian of an essay text.
The precise modalities of the exam will be communicated at the end of the course according to the evolution of the pandemic situation.
