Laboratories and Educational Modules in Prison

(20 hours - 3 credit units)

At the Opera and Bollate jails, within the San Vittore prison complex, the University of Milan each year offers workshops and educational programmes, bringing together incarcerated students and students from the community, thanks to an Agreement signed with the Regional Procurement Office for the Department of Corrections.

Each module or workshop provides a total of 20 hours of in-class instruction, giving the student the opportunity to earn 3 university academic credit units (CFU). Students from the community may attend as well, provided they can show the coursework can be included in their plan of study.

This programme not only provides a can’t-miss opportunity for study and learning for incarcerated or jailed persons, who cannot attend university classes on campus, it also provides an opportunity for personal and cultural growth for students wishing to interact in a proactive way with a side of society, and in an environment, different from their everyday campus experience.

How can I participate?

Spaces in the workshops and educational modules – which relate to specific degree programmes - are limited due to entry and class-size restrictions. To take part, therefore, one must sign up in advance and follow the instructions provided on the webpages for the corresponding degree programme.
