Part-time enrolment

Part-time enrolment aims to offer students with special personal circumstances the opportunity to pursue their university studies on a part-time basis, for work, family or health reasons which make it difficult for them to attend courses and sit exams on a regular basis.

Part-time enrolment allows you to extend your Bachelor's, Master's or single-cycle Master's degree programme up to twice its standard duration, with no additional fees.

Avviso

You may apply for part-time enrolment from 19 October to 16 November 2020.

Students enrolled in the first year of Master's degree programmes, including those registered before 1 January 2021, may submit their application until 8 March 2021, after the second-instalment payment deadline. However, they will incur a late payment fee. Those who apply for part-time enrolment once the second-instalment payment request has been issued, may not apply for an instalment plan. If they have already applied for an instalment plan, their application will be automatically cancelled.

For students to apply for part-time enrolment, they must be enrolled in the 2020/2021 academic year.

Part-time status starts from the year the application is accepted, and cannot change during the year.

Part-time enrolment remains valid for subsequent years as well, unless the student submits an application for withdrawal, through the Informastudenti service, within the deadline for renewing enrolment for the following academic year.

Part-time students wishing to graduate ahead of statutory deadlines may request to return to the full-time regime, after obtaining the favourable opinion of a special committee. If the application is accepted, tuition fees will be re-calculated based on the amount due as a full-time student.

Course of study

For any requests relating to exams or individual study paths, please refer to your official Study Programme or to your academic office.

A part-time programme may not last more than twice the number of years of the full-time programme. Its duration will depend on the chosen track, as follows:

Bachelor's degree programme (standard full-time duration: 3 years)

Academic path to be completed in:

  • 6 years for students enrolled in year I of the programme (50% of the tuition fee)
  • 5 years for students enrolled in year II of the programme
  • 4 years for students enrolled in year III of the programme
  • 3 years for students enrolled in year I, II or III off-track

Master's degree programme (standard full-time duration: 2 years)

Academic path to be completed in:

  • 4 years for students enrolled in year I of the programme (50% of the tuition fee)

  • 6 years for students enrolled in year II of the programme
  • 5 years for students enrolled in year III of the programme
  • 4 years for students enrolled in year IV of the programme
  •  3 years for students enrolled in year V of the programme
  • 2 years for students enrolled in year I, II or III off-track

Single-cycle master's degree programmes in Medicine, Dental Medicine, and Veterinary Medicine (first two years)

Academic path to be completed in:

  • 4 years for students enrolled in year I of the programme (75% of the tuition fee)

Part-time enrolment is not available for all Bachelor's degree programmes in the health professions, due to their vocational nature and the number of credits to be earned for clinical / pre-professional internships.

For other programmes, part-time enrolment is available if allowed by their respective regulations and academic boards.

Students enrolled up to year III off-track, who apply for part-time training, are automatically enrolled in the last year of their degree programme, regardless of their prior career and year of off-track enrolment under the full-time regime. A student enrolled in a programme or curriculum that is no longer available may not enrol part-time, as it is not possible to enrol in the last year of this study programme.

With part-time enrolment, you will get a reduction on the second instalment, depending on the chosen duration:

  • 50% part-time: 50% off the total tuition fee for twice the standard duration
  • Reduction of 25% off the total tuition fee for single-cycle Master's degree programmes

Additional fee for Computer Systems and Networks Security - online version: Students enrolled on a part-time basis will pay the full amount for the first three academic years (whether under the full-time or part-time regime). They will receive a waiver for subsequent academic years under the part-time regime.

The return to full-time enrolment has retroactive effect. Therefore, the student will be required to pay any unpaid amounts.

On the other hand, students moving from full-time to part-time enrolment will not be entitled to any refund of fees paid.

Part-time enrolment is not compatible with high-merit waivers or grants awarded under education-incentive programmes.
