Research Observatory

The Research Observatory has been active in the university since October 2014.

It is composed of scientific experts belonging to various scientific disciplinary sectors as well as administrative and technical sectors. Its members are renewed every three academic years.

According to the regulations, the Observatory:

  • collects and analyzes data and information relating to results obtained by the University of Milan in the various research areas in which it is active;

  • proposes criteria and models for monitoring the research activity carried out in the university;

  • promotes, within the governing bodies, interventions to improve the quality of research, the ability to attract resources and the visibility of the University of Milan at national and international level;

  • draws up summary documents by mandate of the university’s governing bodies, which are useful in the representation of the university's scientific performance;

  • in compliance with the differentiation and integration of competences with the Evaluation Unit, it deals with the evaluation of individual scientific results of research personnel, the approval of projects for the establishment of research centres and the related three-year periodic evaluation, for the purposes of renewal and further evaluation procedures that are necessary for the needs of the governing bodies.

The Committee is renewed every three academic years. It is composed of internal scientific experts and technical and administrative staff in office until 30 September 2021. Prof. Maria Pia Abbracchio, Vice Rector for Research Strategies and Policies, takes part in the Observatory's meetings.
